Leticia Dolera (Barcelona, 1981) is an actress, screenwriter, film director, and writer. She began her professional career as an actress on television with famous series such as Al salir de clase, El comisario, Hospital Central, and Los Serrano.
She defines them as "a place to tell stories with the opportunity to reach many people in the intimacy of their homes." And it is on television where she has received great recognition, winning the Cannes Series Festival in 2019 with Vida perfecta, in which she is the lead actress, creator, director, and co-screenwriter alongside Manuel Burque.
Las cosas excepcionales
Her slender figure moves like a fish in water among the spectator stands of Espai Brossa, in the heart of the Born neighborhood. "Theater gives you direct contact with people. It's not physical contact, but you directly receive every breath. Furthermore, each performance is unique, it's not recorded. The scene has something of a ritual. It's a communal act."

How did they convince her for the production of Las cosas excepcionales? "The production company Sixto Paz always chooses texts that interest me because they deal with complex and interesting topics that raise many questions. And the director of the production company, Pau Roca, was my classmate when I studied acting at the Nancy Tuñón school. It's a pleasure to star in a play with Pau Roca, although we don't coincide on stage because on the days he performs, I don't, and vice versa. In this play, something very beautiful is created: a feeling of community. In these times of confinement, we forget that we are part of a community. Duncan MacMillan's text offers you the opportunity to play with the audience and make them participate. It's a pleasure when you see that people want to help you."
What do you feel when you find out that the "Sold Out" sign has been hung? "It's exciting. A responsibility. It's gratifying that the Catalan public knows that culture is safe and to see that theaters like Espai Brossa are alive." We can affirm that this production has been a success in every sense. "We have enjoyed it a lot and I am very excited because on March 20 we have a gig in Montornès del Vallès and maybe more gigs will come out."
When did you know you wanted to be an actress? "When I was in school I always wanted to participate in poetry readings and I liked to take extracurricular acting classes. I grew up an only child and I would do interviews with a tape recorder pretending to host radio shows. It stimulated my imagination and I played characters. I started at the Nancy Tuñón School and then I went to study in Los Angeles, and since then I haven't stopped. I like the different tools and there are many techniques, I don't rule anything out."
Her name also shines for her defense of women. How do you see the feminist movement in the 21st century? "In Spain there are still murders and rapes every day and the glass ceiling has not disappeared. Nor are there women presidents of the Government and therefore there is much to do. We have started the fourth feminist wave but we cannot relax and we have to ensure that women's rights crystallize into laws. The pandemic is harming women more."
Vida perfecta
The series Vida perfecta was the winner of the Cannes Series Festival in 2019. "The first season was the result of four years of work, daily work hand in hand with Manuel Burque. And the second season, which is now in post-production, we filmed in the middle of the pandemic and everything was very complex." Now they are celebrating the international leap: "The series has premiered in the United States where it is very successful." And she doesn't want to talk about more projects than finishing the second season. "For now I'm not considering more things because maybe it's time to rest and live a little."
Leticia Dolera is a good example of the air bridge: "Working in Barcelona and Madrid is compatible and enriching". And of internationality: "I love that the series is successful in the United States and we are celebrating the success but for now my projects are in Spain." With the Goya Awards in sight, she highlights two films she liked: Las niñas which has a brutal sensibility and El año del descubrimiento.
