nowledge is the new money: you have to keep learning every day. With this impactful phrase, Sergio Parra in Yorokobu titled his inspiring dissertation on why, thanks to technology, we will increasingly need to monetize less and learn more.
In line with his approach and in contrast to the apocalyptic vision many have of the digital age, we find people with a flexible mindset that allows them to adapt to the accelerated changes of new times. How? With a positive attitude based on constant learning.
These are professionals who work and think in a network. They are agile, creative, innovative, social, and sociable. They ask questions and constantly rethink their knowledge, then disseminate their findings and compare them, collaborating with anyone and from anywhere, as they know how to use new technologies to their advantage.
They bring value to organizations because their free spirit allows them to adapt to any context without fear of failure, with an attitude of self-improvement, similar to what one has when participating in a game. Their professional and personal success is directly related to this attitude.
To define this mindset, John Moravec, founder of Education Futures LLC, coined the neologism knowmad, a concept based on the terms know and mad (from nomad) which, as he explains in his book Knowmad Society, is rooted in innovation and flexibility, in win-win relationships between organizations and companies, in constant learning, and in a proactive and constructive attitude towards life and work.
In Spain, journalist Raquel Roca has recently published Knowmads. The workers of the future (Lid Editorial) in which she advocates for resetting our minds to become knowmads. "In addition to our own employability, being a knowmad becomes a philosophy of life that makes you happier. Why? Because, among other things, you know you are prepared for the unknown, to surf on instability without sinking, and because it uncovers the most social part we carry within, generating connections with other people," Roca highlights.
Let's be knowmad!
