Whoever has never seen La Escopeta Nacional on the big screen has the opportunity to do so next June 18. The Barcelona distributor A Contracorriente Films will celebrate the Centenary of Luis García Berlanga (1921-2010) by re-releasing the mythical film in theaters, premiered in 1978 and starring the great José Sazatornil, a Catalan manufacturer of electronic doormen who travels to Madrid to participate in a hunt with which he intends to socialize with high society people and promote his business. Along with Sazatornil, other classics of Spanish cinema appear in this Berlanga satire, such as José Luis López Vázquez, Antonio Ferrandis, Luis Ciges, Mónica Randall, Amparo Soler Leal, Chus Lampreave and Bárbara Rey.
In collaboration with Impala and Estela Films, to remember Berlanga, the film Moros y Cristianos (1987) will also be re-released in cinemas next July 16. According to A Contracorriente Films, Berlanga "is one of the most important filmmakers in the history of our country", in addition to being "a reference for many generations of directors". "His legacy has endured throughout the years and returns to cinemas again to commemorate the hundred years of his birth", highlights the distributor. Berlanga is also the author of well-known films such as ¡Bienvenido, Mister Marshall!, El verdugo or Plácido.
At the end of the year, a special collector's edition of Moros y cristianos will be released on Blu-ray, a film that was nominated for 4 Goya Awards and starred Fernando Fernán Gómez, whose birth centenary will also be celebrated this year. Moros y cristianos tells the story of a singular family of nougat makers' journey to Madrid against the will of the family patriarch, Don Fernando Planchadell, played by Fernán Gómez. The script is by Berlanga himself and Rafael Azcona.
