Barcelona Global has activated its presidential succession process with the proposal of Josep Lluís Sanfeliu as a candidate to lead the entity in the 2026-2028 period. The candidacy, promoted by the current president, Ramon Agenjo, has been unanimously accepted by the executive committee.

The appointment must now follow the planned calendar: the supervisory board will meet on May 20 to evaluate the proposal and, subsequently, the general assembly of partners will ratify it on June 19, at which time the succession will be formalized.

Continuity and internal knowledge

The proposal points to a continuous succession within the organization. Sanfeliu has been a partner of Barcelona Global since its inception and currently presides over the Life Science chapter, in addition to having been part of various executive committees in previous stages, with presidencies such as those of Emili Cuatrecasas, Maite Barrera, and the current Ramon Agenjo. His profile thus responds to a direct knowledge of the internal functioning of the entity and a trajectory linked to the promotion of business and innovation projects.

Sanfeliu is a founding partner of Asabys Partners, a European fund specialized in investment in biotechnology, medical technology, and digital health, and also co-founder of Ysios Capital, a pioneer in venture capital in biomedicine in Spain. Throughout his career, he has participated in the financing of companies emerging from hospitals, universities, and research centers.

Mandate change in June

Ramon Agenjo has presided over Barcelona Global since June 2024, in a two-year mandate, as established by the entity's statutes, which do not contemplate immediate re-election. Patron-director of the Damm Foundation and advisor to Damm, he was elected president for the 2024-2026 period, succeeding Maite Barrera. Now, once the succession becomes effective, he will become part of the honorary presidency of the association.

Before that, however, the future president must define the composition of the new executive committee, which may consist of a maximum of 20 members and must be validated by the supervisory board.

The succession will take place in an organization that in recent years has strengthened its role as a space for articulation between business, talent, and Barcelona's international projection, maintaining a governance model based on short mandates and leadership rotation.
