After a decade of growth and consolidation, technology centre Eurecat is preparing for a change in leadership at a key moment in defining the organisation’s future challenges and priorities. Its board has appointed Josep Lluís Checa as the new director general, a position he will take up in January 2027, succeeding Xavier López, who has led Eurecat since its creation in 2015. Over the past ten years, the organisation has carried out more than 16,000 innovation projects and services and generated an impact of over €1.25 billion in the turnover of companies and institutions. With a team of more than 860 professionals, Eurecat works in fields including artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, advanced materials and sustainability.
A trained industrial engineer, Checa has been director general of the Fundació TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme for the past nine years. Throughout his career, he has gained experience in managing public and private organisations and promoting technological innovation. Before joining TecnoCampus, he held senior management positions at Gas Natural and the Centre de Telecomunicacions i Tecnologies de la Informació (CTTI). As head of Eurecat, he aims to put this experience towards a goal he considers a priority: “strengthening the organisation’s role as a strategic partner for businesses in accelerating high-impact innovation”.
