The founder and CEO of Sateliot, Jaume Sanpera, reinforces the position of the Catalan company in the new European map of space telecommunications after the European Space Agency (ESA) selected it to contribute to the Low-LEO layer of the IRIS² program, the European Union's commitment to develop its own secure and resilient connectivity infrastructure. Sateliot is part of a group of about 80 companies that will participate in 18 consolidation contracts promoted by ESA.
Through the RESCUE-NET project, the company will study new use cases for secure connectivity for the Internet of Things and Direct-to-Device (D2D) technology, which allows connecting devices directly with satellites in low orbit. The objective is to define how non-terrestrial networks based on 3GPP standards can guarantee resilient European governmental communications in emergency situations, in remote areas or when terrestrial networks are not available.
With almost three decades of experience in the telecommunications sector, Sanpera has promoted several business projects before founding Sateliot, including Eurona and Ambientum. He now leads a company that is preparing for a new leap with the launch, scheduled for 2027, of the new generation Tritó satellites. Participation in IRIS² places Sateliot in one of the EU's strategic projects to strengthen its autonomy and connectivity capacity from space.
