The store that JackBeds opened a few days ago in Sant Cugat del Vallès represents a step further in the expansion of the mattress brand outside the city of Barcelona. The new point of sale, located on Santiago Rusiñol street ---the busiest commercial artery in the Vallès city--- has an area of one hundred square meters and will focus on the sale of the brand's high-end products.
The new commercial space is the eighth JackBeds store, a company born in Barcelona in July 2017 and which, about to celebrate 5 years of existence and thanks to its sustained growth, has carved out a niche among the mattress giants. The recently opened store will function as a smart boutique, where each mattress will be designed according to the client's preferences.
Its founder, Alejandro Arrufat, represents the third generation of a family closely linked to the textile business. His grandfather, Josep Maria Arrufat, founded Cal Sastre in the 1930s in Sant Martí de Maldà, a town in the province of Lleida. In his workshop, he made patterns and seams for suits, shirts, and dresses, and his good work led Cortefiel to sign him to open their stores. He started in Lleida, but soon arrived in Barcelona to open points of sale in Portal del Ángel and Diagonal. In those years, the whole family dedicated themselves to the textile business and attention to detail.
Alejandro wanted to pay homage to his grandfather with the name of his company, since Jack are the initials of Josep Maria Arrufat Capdevila, to which the letter "k" has been added, for marketing reasons.
But the commitment to the quality of materials and the vocation of customer service remain intact in the current generation, as JackBeds prioritizes customer experience and after-sales follow-up in a sector very focused on big discounts and the low cost mentality.
Regarding the spirit of the company and its evolution, Alejandro Arrufat comments that "it was born as an entrepreneurial project with a startup mentality with a first store in the Gràcia neighborhood, where local commerce and handmade products are highly valued." "Thanks to the creation of a good team and working from day one with the same honesty and sacrifice to achieve customer satisfaction, we have created solid foundations. Between 20% and 35% of our annual turnover comes from recommendations and loyalty," explains the businessman.
And it seems the formula works, as the company has been growing at triple digits for two consecutive years. After experiencing 230% growth in 2020, JackBeds closed 2021 with a turnover of 1.8 million euros (growing 110% compared to the previous year) and expects to end 2022 with about 3.5 million in turnover. To date, the company's growth has been organic, with its own capital and without the participation of any investor.
The brand's average ticket is 1,000 euros, with mattresses ranging from 500 euros to 1,500 euros. Its star product, the Jack One, has remained in the catalog since the beginning, and this year the company will launch the Jack One AIR, the evolved version of its best seller.
The JackBeds team currently consists of 40 people, led by Alejandro Arrufat (founder and CEO), Xavier Ortega (CFO), and Maria Plaza, its new marketing director.
The company's plans for this year include consolidating its positions in Barcelona and Sant Cugat, and for next year, JackBeds wants to expand its market to other areas of Catalonia. In 2025, the brand plans to make the leap to Madrid and the Basque Country.
To achieve the new objectives, the company will allocate 500,000 euros to marketing throughout this fiscal year and a minimum of three new stores will be opened between Barcelona and Sant Cugat.
"The first step is to consolidate Barcelona, opening two more stores, to serve areas like Sants-Les Corts or Meridiana-Fabra i Puig, which we don't yet reach. The next step is to expand in Catalonia; we are thinking of the 3 provincial capitals, but also other large cities like Sabadell and Mataró," says Arrufat.
With the patience and meticulousness of a tailor, JackBeds wants to continue growing in the rest sector, with an unwavering confidence in the quality of materials, customer service, and the shopping experience as drivers of success.
