The Old Estrella Damm Factory will host next Wednesday, June 12, at 6:30 p.m., the third session of the cycle that The New Barcelona Post dedicates to making the America's Cup known to the public. These are informative sessions that offer practical information to learn about all aspects of this important international sporting competition which, for the first time, Barcelona will host between August and October. Under the motto A benchmark competition in innovation and sustainability, this third session will focus on explaining what the boats that will compete in the regatta are like and all the technical innovations they incorporate that make them fly over the water. To attend the talk, it is essential to reserve a completely free ticket, by clicking on this link.
The cycle Everything you want to know about the America's Cup is sponsored by the Port de Barcelona, the Barcelona City Council, Estrella Damm and the Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica, in addition to the collaboration of Giny and Must Media Group. If you could not attend the first two sessions, held in April and May, you can now catch up on them on our Youtube channel or on Spotify
In the third session, we will explain the reasons that have led to the America's Cup being dubbed the Formula 1 of the sea. The technical innovations developed by the teams competition after competition end up benefiting the entire nautical industry, as many of the innovations tested by the fast sailboats in the regatta end up being adopted by brands and manufacturers of all types of boats. We will have engineers and crew members from some of the teams participating in the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup to tell us the main novelties presented by the majestic AC75 sailboats and also the operation of these vessels, characterized by the use of foils or hydrofoils that allow them to fly over the sea. In this edition of the America's Cup, the AC75 monohulls with foils are slightly different, as they have been modified to improve performance in light winds and reduce the number of crew members from 11 to 8.
Sustainability and the use of alternative energies such as hydrogen for the auxiliary boats that assist in the competition will be the other major focus of this third informative session organized by The New Barcelona Post and which will be presented by journalist Roger Escapa, director and presenter of the program El Suplement on Catalunya Ràdio.
The day will be inaugurated by the Minister of Business and Labor, Roger Torrent, who is also the president of the board of trustees of the Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica (FBCN). We will have the expert voice of some of the engineers from the six male teams participating in the America's Cup, as well as a representative of the crew members to explain the role of each person on board the vessels during the competition.
Also participating in the day will be Sergi Romera, head of the America's Cup Office of the Port of Barcelona, and Anna Majó, director of Strategic Sectors and Innovation at Barcelona Activa and responsible for leading the strategy to promote the sustainable blue economy at the Barcelona City Council.
