The CaixaProinfancia program, from Fundación La Caixa, is launching its offer of summer activities aimed at children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability for another year. It is expected that 30,000 children and adolescents from all over Spain, 8,000 of whom are in Catalonia, will participate this summer in free camps, colonies, urban colonies, and open centers.
Fundación La Caixa is allocating 10 million euros to this initiative, which is carried out thanks to the collaboration of more than 300 social entities that organize summer activities throughout Spain. In Catalonia, a hundred social entities collaborate, and the investment exceeds three million euros.
The activities provide a safe and stimulating environment during school holidays, while fostering personal development through coexistence, play, and learning. In this context, since 2007, CaixaProinfancia has been working to guarantee the right to quality free time for children in situations of poverty or social exclusion, also favoring family reconciliation in a particularly delicate time for many households.
During the summer months, numerous families—particularly those in vulnerable situations—face the difficulty of combining their work responsibilities with the care of their children, which increases family stress and limits educational and recreational opportunities. Many households, moreover, cannot afford the cost of a vacation or activities such as camps, which highlights the need for programs that guarantee equitable access to educational leisure and support families during the summer period.
Summers that leave a mark
The entities linked to the CaixaProinfancia program highlight the fundamental role of summer activities as spaces for personal and social growth. These activities contribute to the development of key competencies in childhood and adolescence, especially in areas such as autonomy, coexistence, self-esteem, and empathy.
Summer activities foster fundamental skills in five major areas: social, cognitive, emotional, moral, and personal development. Through play, group life, contact with nature, and structured educational programming, significant learning experiences are generated that participants integrate naturally.
The CaixaProinfancia program aims to break the cycle of inherited poverty through a comprehensive and networked intervention modelIn addition, as every year, the program makes available to social entities a collection of games developed with the advice of specialists in activities with values. This summer, the proposal includes five challenges inspired by the natural phases of a crop, with the aim of reminding children of the importance of eating well and moving to feel better and recharge energy.
A network collaboration model
The CaixaProinfancia program aims to break the cycle of inherited poverty through a comprehensive and networked intervention model. In addition to summer activities, it offers year-round educational reinforcement, psychotherapeutic care, family workshops, and aid for food, child hygiene, glasses, hearing aids, and school equipment.
In 2024, CaixaProinfancia served nearly 66,000 children and adolescents and 41,000 families in 148 municipalities across Spain. Since its creation, the program has already supported more than 392,000 children and adolescents and 227,000 families. Currently, nearly 500 social entities collaborate in its implementation and monitoring, adapting interventions to the needs of each territory and each family.
