In the ancient world, the amphora was much more than a container: it was the symbol of a trade that crossed seas and continents. Two thousand years later, that spirit lives on in Amphora Logistics, a Catalan startup that has managed to reinterpret that commercial vocation in a technological key, adapting it to the 21st century. Its mission is clear: to simplify and streamline the logistics of e-commerce businesses so that they can sell worldwide with the same efficiency as large corporations. In the last year alone, the company has managed more than 6 million packages for more than 500 clients.

The company was born at the end of 2020, in the midst of the e-commerce boom, driven by three entrepreneurs—Joaquim Sant, Joan Tresserras, and Adrià Cortés—who identified a clear gap in the market. Creating an online store had become relatively simple thanks to digital platforms, but logistics remained a barrier for many small and medium-sized businesses.

"At that time, having a good logistics system was only within reach of large corporations, which already had consolidated processes and an international presence," recalls Adrià Cortés, CEO and co-founder of Amphora Logistics. The problem was structural: traditional logistics was designed to move large volumes and goods on pallets deposited in large areas. But online commerce demanded a new approach: thousands of individual orders, which had to be prepared and sent quickly to the final customer. Thus, even though anyone could start a digital business and sell online, the challenge was to manage, prepare, and deliver orders with efficiency and traceability.

Amphora Logistics' bet was clearly technological: digitizing the warehouse, automating processes, and offering real-time tracking. "The goal was for these businesses to be able to outsource logistics and for their customers to have a shopping and delivery experience similar to that of large companies," says Cortés.

The heart of the project is, thus, its own warehouse management software, which they use in their own logistics centers and also commercialize to third parties. The system allows real-time control of stock entries and exits, order preparation, inventory, and returns. In addition, consumers receive a personalized tracking number and, thanks to artificial intelligence, have continuous support throughout the shipping process.

The company was born at the end of 2020, in the midst of the e-commerce boom, driven by Joaquim Sant, Joan Tresserras, and Adrià Cortés.

Although software sales represent about 20% of turnover, most of the business is dominated by logistics management for those online stores that decide to outsource these services. According to internal data, their clients manage to reduce logistics costs by 22% and incidents by 37%.

In just over five years, the company's growth has been remarkable. In 2025, Amphora Logistics exceeded 40 million euros in turnover, working with more than 500 clients: from emerging brands to companies with annual revenues of over 100 million euros. Among its clients are fashion, cosmetics, accessories, and food supplement brands such as Ölend, One Dilemma, Fake Gods, Facegloss, or Skin Molecule.

Since its inception, they have only closed two funding rounds, totaling 1.5 million euros combined. From this investment, they have managed to reinvest profits to drive international expansion: they currently make deliveries to more than 180 countries. In fact, 52% of the shipments they manage are already international and 99% arrive in less than 48 hours. All thanks to a workforce that is close to 200 employees.

These packages are managed from a storage space that exceeds 100,000 square meters, distributed in more than twenty centers in Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In Spain alone, they have more than 65,000 square meters of storage, with a large reference logistics center in Vilafranca del Penedès that exceeds 40,000 square meters.

Barcelona, global logistics hub

Amphora Logistics' ambition goes beyond its own growth. "We want to become the gateway to Europe for international e-commerce and contribute to positioning Barcelona as a global reference European logistics hub," says Cortés. According to the executive, the Catalan capital offers clear competitive advantages over other traditional logistics centers such as Poland or the Czech Republic: "similar costs and a privileged geographical position, with excellent connections to the main European markets," he explains.

From Barcelona, a truck can reach most of the continent's major population centers in 48 hours. This logistical centrality, added to initiatives such as the Logistics 4.0 Incubator, promoted by the Consorci de la Zona Franca, reinforces the city's position as an emerging hub for logistical innovation.
