Cellnex Telecom and the Gran Teatre del Liceu Foundation have signed a collaboration agreement to provide the theater with a new broadband Wi-Fi service. The wireless signal coverage is based on a Smart Wi-Fi system consisting of about fifty Wi-Fi access antennas located in the main areas of the Theater, including the lobby, the stalls, and the Saló dels Miralls—the Hall of Mirrors, as well as in the staircases, office floors, and meeting rooms, among others.

MOBILE PHONE COVERAGE WITH DAS TECHNOLOGY

As part of the actions to improve connectivity, the Liceu has also been equipped with DAS (Distributed Antenna System) technology to reinforce mobile voice and data coverage—and in the future foresee the development of 5G—for mobile phone operators. DAS technology is a neutral, high-capacity, multi-operator infrastructure, specially prepared to provide coverage in spaces with a high concentration of users. In this way, whether via Wi-Fi network or via mobile broadband, the user will be able to enjoy total connectivity through their mobile device during their stay in the venue.

The general director of the Liceu, Valentí Oviedo, wanted to highlight "the collaboration initiated with Cellnex Telecom, which has allowed us to improve the connectivity of spectators within the Liceu, and expand their experience. We want the Liceu to be an open and accessible institution, so we want to provide users with a window to share their experience in the Theater, beyond the show."

For his part, Toni Brunet, Director of Public and Corporate Affairs at Cellnex, emphasizes "the satisfaction of being able to link Cellnex's patronage of the Liceu with an action related to our experience as a telecommunications infrastructure operator, which in turn provides the Gran Teatre del Liceu with connectivity and broadband data access in accordance with the state of the art and which in the future will be able to evolve towards the implementation and development of new standards such as 5G."
