Entrepreneurship has emerged as a distinguishing feature of Catalonia, and has generated an entrepreneurial ecosystem made up of 375,956 people. This figure implies that 7.6% of the adult population states they are an entrepreneur of an early-stage company, which is 0.76 points above the previous year.
This is confirmed by a report promoted by the Govern and the Diputación de Barcelona, which indicates that 50% of this activity corresponds to people involved in launching a business and immersed in its first three months, while the rest are entrepreneurs with their own business between four and 42 months.
Furthermore, the report, prepared by the Institut d'Estudis Regionals i Metropolitans de Barcelona and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), highlights that the intention to undertake among the Catalan population continues to grow.
In this sense, 13.3% of Catalans intend to undertake in the next three years, which is 3.4 points above the previous study. In Barcelona, citizens with an entrepreneurial will are above the Catalan average, at 13.8%. Both figures are close to the European average, at 14%.
And what is this Catalan entrepreneur like? Their profile corresponds to people aged 37 on average, and 60% of early-stage entrepreneurs have a degree or postgraduate studies. By gender, women linked to entrepreneurship are below men, with 6.9% and 8.4%, respectively.
However, this difference occurs in a context where women and men who aspire to undertake are at similar figures, so the intention and will exist similarly in both cases, but an imbalance occurs when undertaking within this Catalan ecosystem.
