The increase in activity at Josep Tarradellas Airport during the past month of July has occurred both in the influx of passengers on flights of Spanish origin, which reached 1,248,142 users (92.1% compared to 2019), and in users of international flights, with a greater absolute number of travelers (3,176,544 people), who have managed to complete 79.4% of the figure recorded in July 2019. The sum of the two categories of airport users reaches 4,424,686 travelers, according to data from the operator Aena.
If the accumulated data for the first seven months of 2022 is taken into account, the percentages again show an acceleration of mobility, which responds positively to the flight offer scheduled for this summer. Thus, the Barcelona airport reached 22,224,399 users between last January and July, a figure that represents 73.6% of the passengers registered in the first seven months of 2019. A total of 15,530,513 international passengers have passed through Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which represents a recovery of 70.5% compared to the same period in 2019.
Again, if we distinguish between international passengers and those from Spain, the former totaled just over 15.5 million between January and the end of July, which represents a recovery of 70.5% compared to the same period in 2019.
On the other hand, the domestic market has accumulated 6.65 million travelers in the first seven months of the year, 81.7% compared to the same period three years ago.
Girona and Reus also catch their breath
The other two Catalan airfields managed by Aena experienced a similar evolution in commercial flights, with a recovery of 72.1% of users at the Girona-Costa Brava facilities and 83.7% in the case of Reus, always compared to July 2019. Specifically, Girona-Costa Brava airport closed the seventh month of the year with 212,696 users, and Reus Airport had 161,662 passengers.
The volume of cargo reaches 92.2%
Aside from passenger transport, El Prat airport has a high level of cargo activity, which has also recovered, with an even higher percentage. Thus, the volume of cargo corresponding to last month reached 14,523 tons of merchandise, a 92.2% recovery compared to July three years ago. So far this year, 89,225 tons have been reached, which represents a 90.2% recovery compared to the accumulated in the same months of 2019.
