The Catalan capital has been one of the cities chosen by the new international hotel brand Miiro to debut in the sector. With its sights set on "Europe's most vibrant cities," the new firm will open its first establishment in Barcelona this summer, under the name Hotel Borneta, after the opening of a hotel in Paris and with plans to also land in London and Vienna in 2025.
The new brand, promoted by the Indian aviation and hospitality conglomerate InterGlobe Enterprises, will land in Barcelona on Paseo Picasso, through the renovation of the former Hotel Picasso K+K. The establishment, now closed, will reopen as a boutique hotel in August. It will do so by taking advantage of the previous hotel's license and taking over from the Austrian chain K+K Hotels.
The operation has materialized in a context where the opening of new hotels in Barcelona is limited by municipal regulations, with the Special Urban Plan for Tourist Accommodations (Peuat). For this reason, the change of hands of hotel licenses is the usual and almost exclusive way for the opening of accommodations in a large part of the city, as has also been the case of the hotel that Salomon 1965 is finalizing in the Raval.
Hotel Borneta will feature 92 rooms, a restaurant with an open kitchen, a cocktail bar, and a rooftop terrace from which to contemplate the Born. The design and name of the renovated hotel are inspired by its surroundings, and it aims to carry out its hotel work in connection with the local community.
The launch of Miiro is part of InterGlobe Enterprises' diversification strategy in Europe, which has 58,000 employees worldwide. With the aim of promoting unique hotel assets in prime European locations, the new chain aims to expand its presence in other European cities.
