Ebro's sales growth will translate into an expansion of its area in the Zona Franca. The company has closed an agreement with the multinational Goodman to expand the space it uses where the old Nissan plant was located by 60,000 square meters, with the forecast of continuing to increase its sales and for Omoda's Chinese models to arrive by the end of the year.

With the expansion, Ebro Factory will approach 320,000 square meters in total. "Seeing the increase in sales, we have to plan for future spaces," said the president of EV Motors, Rafael Ruiz. The company, which currently employs 800 workers, aims to reach a production of 20,000 vehicles. In the future, it plans to reach 150,000 vehicles manufactured per year.

The agreement was sealed at the International Logistics Exhibition (SIL), which brings together the main players and professionals in the sector at Fira de Barcelona's Montjïc venue. In front of leaders in logistics, transport, and the supply chain, Goodman took the opportunity to launch the commercialization of the logistics space on the grounds of the old Nissan plant, now called Barcelona City Hub, which Goodman manages as the winner of the reindustrialization tender.

On these grounds, the Australian multinational will invest more than 120 million euros in two years, and will build the largest multi-story warehouse in Europe, which will have 135,000 square meters, and is expected to generate 2,000 jobs. "Today we officially launch the commercialization; there are clients who have already been asking us and we are working on some of the modules of the multi-story warehouse," highlighted Goodman's director in Spain, Ignacio Cuenca.

The multinational's goal is to attract three to five large clients, focused mainly on port logistics and last-mile delivery, taking advantage of its location two kilometers from the Port of Barcelona and just over 20 minutes from densely populated areas such as the Catalan capital and its metropolitan area.

Until now, the company has invested 23 million euros in its logistics warehouse, which will have two floors of ten meters each. In total, they will exceed an area of 135,000 square meters, which will be added to the reindustrialization project of the former Nissan. After the departure of the Japanese company in 2020, this process was launched, which is progressing as a "successful industrial reconversion", as defended by the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, during the presentation of the agreement. Attendees at the event also included the Deputy Mayor for Economy of Barcelona, Jordi Valls; the special delegate of the State in the Zona Franca, Pere Navarro, as well as the CEO of Ebro, Pedro Calef.
