What better welcome to enter a 21st-century industrial building, the DFactory Barcelona center, than to find
e-Miles, a prototype of an electric quadricycle manufactured with 3D printers. A new concept of urban mobility designed and manufactured by Malena Engineering, an Abrera-based consultancy specializing in engineering services, management, and software development. Malena Engineering's project is disruptive. The car measures 2.5 meters in length, although it can be extended from two to four seats, and has no steering wheel or pedals: it is driven with a
joystick airplane type. To develop it, engineering has collaborated with Leitat and will count on Windforce, a distributor of industrial 3D printers also based in DFactory Barcelona. Collaboration and synergies to evolve towards the new economy and industry 4.0 through digitalization. This is the
alma máterfrom the center of the new economy promoted and managed by the Barcelona Free Zone Consortium (CZFB) and where state-of-the-art technology can be felt in every corner.
An innovation attraction hub ---disruptive in most cases-- that attracts and creates talent in the territory.DFactory Barcelona is a 4.0 industry hub in Southern Europe that contributes to transforming the productive framework of the local, national, and international fabric through its digital transformation. This generates
an ecosystem based on talent, innovation, and investment in cutting-edge technologythat lead large business corporations,
startups, research and innovation centers, and laboratories of different entities and companies. It has not yet completed its first year in operation and already has an occupancy of 40%. 30 companies have been installed with about 150 people who enjoy an open workspace, in a 17,000 square meter building spread over four floors, where the
The prototype of the electric quadricycle conceived by The e-Miles Company and manufactured with Windforce 3D printers. When only 10% of its surface remains free, the Consortium will expand the project to the adjoining land in the same industrial estate, which corresponds to the old industrial area that Seat had in the Zona Franca.
This second phase is even more ambitious. It involves 72,500 meters, where several buildings will be constructed for different technologies, with a planned investment of 70 million euros. The expansion has no execution date because the objective and its financing must be defined, once the current project has become profitable. DFactory Barcelona with all its planning executed will be a
hubof innovation with more than a hundred companies and 1,500 employees and will have generated 5,000 indirect jobs.
The CZFB plans to invest 70 million euros in the second phase of the project, which will add 72,500 square meters.
Companies such as Malena Engineering, through The e-Miles Company, and Windforce are examples of the innovation, research, and talent contained within the glass and steel walls ---2,000 tons of this material--- of DFactory, located two minutes from the Port comercial-La Factoria stop on metro line 10. The building has been designed by Turull & Sørensen Arquitectos, in collaboration with Torrella Engineering, PGI Engineering, and Ágora Project Management - Tüv Sud. It also responds to an architecturally innovative model that combines the industrial style of old factories with glass finishes, open-plan interiors, and the latest technology in sustainable construction systems. These characteristics and the nature of its tenants have made the facility a
a living space, where the people who work in it move 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Interior of the DFactory facilities, whose architectural style is reminiscent of large industrial buildings. The professionals who now enjoy this work environment belong to entities or companies such as:
Leitat Technology Center, the main tenant of DFactory.
