It is not a date that has been etched into collective memory, but on May 29, 1953, one of the greatest feats in the history of mountaineering took place: Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Everest for the first time. More than seven decades later, that expedition is coming to life once again, this time without having to take a plane, endure the cold, or leave Barcelona. Starting October 7, Eclipso Barcelona invites visitors to follow the route from Kathmandu to the 8,849-metre summit of the world’s highest mountain through an immersive virtual reality experience.

Everest, the First Ascent is based on historical, cultural, and alpine research and incorporates the expertise of specialists in Tibetan Buddhism and the history of mountaineering, as well as that of guide Lapka Sherpa Gelgen, who has summited Everest seven times. This extensive research and expertise bring that historic expedition back to life, placing visitors in the heart of the Himalayan landscape, where they can move freely as if they were part of the team and experience some of the sensations of the ascent, from the cold to the effects of altitude.
