Crowning the miracle, emotion at the summit

Miracles exist and these can be of many types. The mountaineer Ferran Latorre has summited the 14 eight-thousanders and, in addition to working a miracle, has moved the world. A story, a milestone, of the impossible made real.

At just 13 years old, mountaineer Ferran Latorre promised himself he would climb Everest. At such a young age, Latorre had already made the first three-thousand-meter ascent of his life in Aigüestortes (Lleida) and was reading "Solo Victory" by Peter Habeler. Something that led him directly to turn his desire into reality in May 2017, a milestone in his personal and professional life that allowed him to close a circle.

"The mountain reminds you of your limits and makes you humble," Latorre declares in an interview for ALMA. He does not consider himself a hero or a symbol of anything. What he has experienced is something magical that allows him to realize many things and, above all, to appreciate what we have and be grateful to be alive to tell about it. "When you lack oxygen, you feel your life is hanging by a thread."

"Passion and love," the engine to achieve anything. "Feelings are the most basic and simple, but also the most powerful thing in the world," he narrates in the interview for ALMA. He is happy to be able to share all his experience with his family, friends, but also professionally, collaborating with important scientists such as Dr. José Manuel Soria from the Hospital de Sant Pau in Barcelona, linking to research into serious respiratory diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), through the Sherpa Everest 2017 Project. Diseases related to lack of oxygen are much more frequent than we think, something that, from his experience, he has lived and confirmed. His link with Obra Social "la Caixa" is also important in his career and development, feeling totally supported by them, in a sincere and committed way.

"I find it very beautiful that the conquest of the useless will finally be useful."
