Competition of 'startups' to innovate in the horeca channel

Horeca Challenge, an initiative by Grupo Mediapro, Damm and Familia Torres, will finance three startups that respond to some of the challenges facing the restaurant sector, such as managing customer flow, guaranteeing sanitary conditions, and optimizing profitability. In total, more than 200 startups have applied, and only 18 finalists have been selected.

Mediapro, Damm and Familia Torres have joined forces to relaunch the restaurant sector, once the crisis passes. The Horeca Challenge, with the support of Acció, F6S, the Gremi de Restauració de Barcelona, Hostelería de España, Barcelona Tech City and Spanish Startups, aims to find the most innovative solutions to boost the business of bars and restaurants. More than 200 startups, most of them Spanish and a good part from Barcelona, have submitted proposals to achieve this.

Of these, the organizers have chosen 18 finalist emerging companies, six for each of the challenges posed, which will now compete until only one remains per category. The first challenge, solutions for customer flow management, has gathered proposals from Click and plan, Findyt and from Barcelona-based Bookline, The Friend Zone, Loypop and Vipcard. For the second, projects guaranteeing sanitary conditions, NuWave Sensores, iFlares, PurificAir, Nob166 and Barcelona startups Kuki and Air8 have submitted proposals. Finally, the challenge that seeks projects for profitability optimization has selected solutions proposed by BR Bares & Restaurantes, Pikotea, Miss Tipsi, Neareo and Barcelona-based QuickTendry Haddock.

The finalist startups will have to present their projects to sector experts in an online pitch. Afterwards, the three winners will be selected and announced on February 26. From this moment on, the winners will have to work to develop a pilot for three months, co-financed by Mediapro, Damm and Familia Torres, with 6,000 euros per project. The Horeca Challenge will conclude with a demo day at the end of June, where the winners will show the results of their pilots to investors and companies.
