One of the most globally known bands returns to the Catalan capital. Coldplay will perform at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on May 24 and 25, 2023. It will be one of the European stops on their Music of the Spheres World Tour, which began in Costa Rica in March and has just closed six sold-out nights at London's emblematic Wembley Stadium.
The group led by Chris Martin will present their ninth album in Barcelona. The album Music of the Spheres is a Coldplay journey to a fictional planetary system, encouraged by the imagery of Star Wars. At the concert, some of their classics, already international anthems, will also be played, such as The Scientist, Paradise, Yellow, Clocks, Fix you, or the most Barcelona-esque, Viva la vida.
Coldplay's new world tour has a clear aim to reduce the carbon footprint caused by the music industry. Although it was originally announced that they would not take planes, they have ended up opting to minimize them and prioritize commercial flights to travel around the world. Likewise, their concerts have been designed with 100% renewable energy, and electric bicycles and kinetic dance floors have been included so that spectators can contribute a little to mitigating their impact. Solar panels and wind turbines have also been installed at all shows.
Tickets for the concert at the Estadi Olímpic will go on sale this Thursday, August 25, starting at 10 AM on the official Live Nation and Ticketmaster websites. The presale will take place one day earlier, starting at ten in the morning this Wednesday, August 24. Prices will start at 50 euros.
For now, the date in Barcelona will be Coldplay's only stop in Spain. After Barcelona, the band will go to their home country, with concerts in Manchester and Cardiff. Then they will continue in Naples, Zurich, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, and Amsterdam. Before arriving at the Estadi Olímpic, they will have stopped in Coimbra.
