Feminist struggles have a long history, and cinema has not been immune to this battle to conquer spaces and perspectives. For decades, women filmmakers have had to make their way behind the cameras and question cinematic narratives often constructed from other perspectives. From this need to reclaim female voices, too often relegated to the social margins, the Barcelona International Women's Film Festival was born in 1993. Fifty years after the first feminist revolts and three decades after the cycle began, the festival revisits this historical legacy of vindication. A female gaze that today not only occupies movie theaters but also public spaces with Cinema fuera de lugar (Cinema out of place), the section of the festival that brings films and documentaries to squares in Gràcia, Ciutat Vella, and Nou Barris.
