Catalonia Hotels & Resorts has sold the purchasing center it founded in 1997, Quantum, which now annually mediates operations exceeding 500 million euros. The Barcelona-based hotel chain has sold it to the American company Avendra International, which is part of the multinational Aramark, a US food service provider.
Quantum operates as a purchasing center focused on negotiating and selecting suppliers in the hospitality sector. It currently has a presence in Spain, Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, Zanzibar, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica, and has more than 2,000 associated hotels and a portfolio of 600 suppliers.
Following this sale, Catalonia, owned by the Vallet family, will continue to use Quantum as its purchasing center. The chain expects the transition to occur smoothly, and that the purchasing center will retain its current CEO, Alejandro Casajuana. "Our employees, customers, and suppliers will not see any change in the company's operations," says Casajuana.
With this operation, the Catalan chain will strengthen its international expansion, in a record year, with projected revenues of 644 million euros and an operating result of 240 million euros. Currently, Catalonia has 77 hotels and resorts in more than 25 destinations worldwide, to which it has added three establishments this year: one in Jamaica, its first hotel in Malaga, and the Catalonia La Boqueria, which reinforces its position in Barcelona, where it has more than 3,000 rooms and 28 hotels.
The chain, which has 40 years of experience, thus maintains its expansion strategy, which in 2025 will incorporate a hotel in Madrid ---the eighth in the city--- and its second establishment in Malaga. It also plans to open a resort in Zanzibar, the first in the region for Catalonia, which aims to become a benchmark establishment in the area.
