Catalonia Hotels & Resorts grows in Barcelona. The hotel chain has purchased a four-star establishment from alternative investment manager Meridia for 27.7 million euros. The new asset, located on the seafront in Poblenou, joins the Vallet family chain's portfolio as its 29th hotel in the Catalan capital, which concentrates half of the 60 establishments it has nationwide.

The hotel, now called Catalonia Barcelona Beach, has 84 rooms and overlooks Mar Bella beach with a gastrobar, breakfast area with terrace, fitness area, meeting room, and a parking lot with 29 spaces.

With this addition to its portfolio, Catalonia reaffirms its commitment to both Barcelona and "organic growth linked to real estate investment, in an area that still has growth potential and represents a safe long-term value," according to the chain's Global Head of Real Estate, Federico Holzmann.

The operation, advised by Cushman & Wakefield, is part of a chain strategy that prioritizes the purchase of assets. As a result of this strategy, more than 90% of Catalonia's establishments are owned, which provides it with great stability and solvency, according to Holzmann, who assures that "the extraordinary results obtained by the chain in 2024 allow it to confidently address the planned expansion plans."

So much so that the chain is open to exploring other growth models alternative to asset acquisition, "such as leases or management contracts, and even cross-co-investment alliances in real estate assets and operational management."

In its expansion plans, the chain expects to open a hotel in Madrid and another in Malaga soon, to which a five-star resort in Zanzibar will be added at the end of the year, representing Catalonia's entry into Africa. The chain, which has more than 40 years of experience, has a total of 78 hotels in 25 cities worldwide.
