Vueling is once again heading to Madrid from Barcelona. In October, it will resume the route between both cities, a connection it had stopped operating regularly. The return comes at a significant time for the company, which in 2024 celebrated its first 20 years of history and, last January, presented its new roadmap until 2035. The plan sets growth as one of its axes, with an investment of 5,000 million euros until 2030 and the goal of reaching 60 million annual passengers. Barcelona, where Vueling was born and where it maintains its main base, occupies a central place in this strategy. The recovery of the connection with Madrid thus reinforces the role of El Prat as one of the pillars of the airline's new stage.
Carolina Martinoli assumed the presidency and CEO position of Vueling in April 2024, after a career linked to the IAG group and different areas of the airline sector. Previously, she had been Director of People, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at IAG, and had held positions of responsibility at British Airways and Iberia. Born in Buenos Aires and raised in Brazil, she has a degree in Business Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, and has developed a large part of her career between Spain and the United Kingdom. Now, she leads the company in a stage marked by growth and a new roadmap that keeps Barcelona at the center of the strategy.
