Cacaolat extends its brand to two new categories: hot beverages in capsules and ice cream. The company, owned by Damm and Cobega, has reached an agreement with the coffee company Baqué for the development of a capsule that allows preparing a Cacaolat in Dolce Gusto system coffee machines, from Nestlé. In parallel, Lacrem, the company that owns the Farggi and La Menorquina brands, will manufacture the first Cacaolat brand ice cream at its factory in Palau Solità i Plegamans (Barcelona).
"We believe that to conquer new categories and expand our portfolio it is essential to partner with experts," explains Cristina Roig, Cacaolat's marketing director. The ice cream, with chocolate and vanilla flavors, is sold in individual format and has the shape of the brand's characteristic bottles. It will be sold in supermarkets as well as in the impulse channel and in bars and restaurants. In parallel, the milk with cocoa capsules will be marketed in packs of ten units in supermarkets. According to Roig, with this format, Cacaolat, which has suffered the consequences of the closure of the hospitality industry, will be able to access "a new consumption moment."
The launch of ice creams by brands that have not usually operated in this business is a growing trend. Danone, also with La Mallorquina, has just launched ice creams with its Greek yogurt brand, Oikos, while the Italian group Ferrero has started marketing Ferrero Rocher and Raffaello ice creams, in this case manufactured by the Valencian ICFC (Ice Cream Factory Comaker).
