After the closure announced by Danone at the beginning of the year, the Parets del Vallès plant, specialized in yogurts from brands such as Oikos and Alpro, will change hands. The French multinational has reached a preliminary agreement with Bon Preu for the distribution group to buy the factory, for an undisclosed amount, and convert it into a logistics center.
The supermarket chain, the first with Catalan capital, will invest 30 million euros to transform Danone's historic factory, with an area of 51,000 square meters, into a distribution hub. It will complement the center the company has in Balenyà (Osona), of 58,000 square meters, as well as the one it plans in Montblanc (Conca de Barberà), with a planned investment of 204 million euros and the hiring of 900 workers. The latter will have an area of 103,600 square meters.
The transfer of the plant is expected to take place during the first half of 2025. Bon Preu estimates that it will need about two and a half years to adapt the factory to the new uses, which will also include company offices. The hundred workers at the Danone plant will have preference to join the supermarket chain, if their profile matches the available vacancies both when activity ceases next year and when the new logistics center opens. The Parets del Vallès plant was the last active Danone factory remaining in Catalonia, with its headquarters for Spain located in Barcelona.
