Bon Preu reinforces its corporate social responsibility strategy. The distribution group, the first with Catalan capital, will allocate 250,000 euros to school meal scholarships. The initiative is expected to cover up to 36,000 school meals in 115 schools, both public and subsidized. It will do so with the collaboration of the entities Educo and Fundesplai.
The supermarket chain wants to do its bit for a problem such as school meal scholarships only reaching 15.5% of Catalan students, despite 32% of children being at risk of poverty and exclusion. Fundesplai alone, focused on high-complexity schools, offers 50,000 meals every day. The price of school meals in Catalonia is 7.25 euros per day. "It is a project for the present and the future. A lot is at stake," defends commercial director, Anna Font. The forecast is to repeat the donation in other editions.
The initiative will be financed with the income Bon Preu obtains from the Too Good To Go packs it sells in bakeries, with which it invoices between 2,500 and 3,000 euros weekly. With prices between two and three euros, this option has been available in more than 150 establishments of the group since last October. It will also allocate its own funds and the resources it will raise at a popular paella event it will organize in May in Cervelló, where it expects the attendance of 1,000 diners.
