The Plenary Council of the Barcelona City Council has approved this Friday an Institutional Declaration of recognition to the musician Jordi Savall and his recognized trajectory with the commitment to cede an emblematic space of municipal ownership in Barcelona so that the Jordi Savall Foundation for Ancient Music can develop its activities.

The musician considers it wonderful that a cultural project unites all political parties of different tendencies. "Around culture and art it is easier to find unity than with other aspects," he assured. The Institutional Declaration recognizes the dimension of Savall's work as one of the most influential living musicians in the world and an extraordinary popularizer, as well as a globally recognized conductor.

The declaration, approved by all groups, promotes Barcelona as "the physical and spiritual headquarters" of the Jordi Savall Foundation for Ancient Music, given the need for this cultural heritage to remain in the city and serve to promote autochthonous Catalan music from the medieval, ancient, and baroque periods. And, finally, it determines the constitution of a commission formed by officials from the Generalitat, the municipal administration, and representatives of the Jordi Savall Foundation to carry out a prospecting of municipally owned properties and determine an adequate and final space for the foundation's headquarters.

The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, highlighted that Savall is a benchmark of ancient music, of great talent and who knows that in the Barcelona City Council he has his home. "He has a pedagogical vocation and leaves a legacy that deserves accompaniment," said Colau, reports ACN.

For his part, Savall stated that it is an exciting moment because he has been looking for a space to root the foundation's activities since the time of Pasqual Maragall. "It is a great satisfaction to see that everything takes on a more concrete dimension." He considers it wonderful that a cultural project unites all political parties of different tendencies.

Savall pointed out that a heritage like his, formed by musical ensembles such as Hespèrion XXI, "are projects that can only exist if they have a stable structure, resources, and a space where they can work."
