Barcelona will deploy all its talent linked to comics at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême (FIBD), one of the most important events in this field globally. Together with Quebec, Barcelona will be the epicenter of the festival's Unesco Pavilion, which will be held in the French city from January 30 to February 2.
Specifically, Barcelona and Quebec will be the guest cities of the Unesco Pavilion at the festival, which this year reaches its 52nd edition. Through this invitation, formalized through the Unesco Network of Cities of Literature, the Catalan capital will bring the work of artists from the city closer to the attendees of the event, which has a very specialized audience and last year reached 200,000 people.
The city will show its potential through the exhibition Barcelona in vignettes. Conceived as a visual journey through emblematic scenarios of the city, the exhibition will be composed of works by local and international artists who portray these locations in genres ranging from detective to humor, passing through costumbrismo and social comics.
In addition to the exhibition, Barcelona will go to the festival with a program of activities ranging from debates on the influence of comics in the city to creative workshops, including a live drawing competition between Catalan and Quebec artists. The Barcelona artistic delegation will be made up of Jordi Lafebre, Sandra Cardona, Nadia Hafid, Marc Torices, Pep Brocal and Sara Soler. The selection of authors, made through a joint effort between the ICUB, the Barcelona Libraries Consortium, Ficomic and the Institut Ramon Llull, has prioritized artists who have recently published with Franco-Belgian publishers, taking into account the location of the festival
