Barcelona, one more Motomami

Rosalía lights up Sant Jordi in her return to the city where she grew up

A few months ago, nobody knew what it was to be a motomami, nor imagined they needed to be one. Barcelona has shown this weekend that now there are many who feel called, knowing that, furthermore, new meanings have been included so that anyone can be part of this new phenomenon. Motopapis, Motomaris... Rosalía has returned to the city where she trained and grew artistically, crowned as a global star, emerging as an undeniable force who knows how to constantly devise new languages, changing codes and creating aesthetics that fit with an audience that applauds and dances flamenco, pop, trap, electronic music, and any style she desires. Rosalía has all the power and does not disappoint.

First, because, of course, a motomami enters the Palau Sant Jordi on a motorcycle. Without skidding, she knows perfectly what the audience expects ---even when they don't even know it---. "Girl, what are you saying," the singer began, "saoko papi, saoko." All this without ceasing to be moved by reuniting with her people. "Barcelona, thank you very much. I want you to know one thing. For me, today is a day when a circle closes. Because, if I remember correctly, the first concert I went to when I was little was here at Sant Jordi. I went to see Estopa because I was a big fan and I'm still a big fan. And today David and José have come. You can imagine how powerful that is," the artist from Baix Llobregat acknowledged as soon as she burst onto the stage, unleashing euphoria among her fans and starting a continuous dialogue with them, whom she even allowed, for better or worse, to take the mic and sing.

Rosalía started the concert pressing hard and it didn't matter that she continued it by lowering revolutions with Candy. That's how she did it all night, masterfully managing the ups and downs, going from hard perreo, even daring with other classics like Gasolina or Papichulo, to sitting at the piano and delighting with her intimate Hentai or picking up the guitar and remembering the song she gave away in full confinement, Dolerme, one of her favorites. One could go from moving their butt "from side to side and another side" to getting emotional to tears with G3 N15, dedicated to her nephew, or Como una G. A frantic rhythm that leaves one no other option than to sit as if in the hairdresser's and groom oneself in the choruses of Diablo, taking off all the makeup as if it were nothing and almost without blinking. And there are no more musicians because they wouldn't fit among so much unleashed talent and a colossal body of dancers. For those who don't understand, "for you, nacky, chicken teriyaki".

"If I say moto, you say...", continued the singer from Sant Esteve Sesrovires, rhetorically inquiring a completely devoted audience that filled the Sant Jordi this Sunday for the second consecutive night. The motomami aesthetic had caught on among attendees, with multiple adaptations, each in their own way, with red and black predominating. And there was no shortage of butterflies or brilli brilli, already established as a must. She even allowed something as flamenco as fans to overshadow the sea of mobile phones that topped the heads of the attendees. Only Rosalía dared with leather, as with this heat, no one would even consider it to complement their outfit. And, when everyone knew what was coming when they say moto, the anthem of this transnational movement arrived, Motomami, considerably short because everything has already been said.

Obviously, in case there was anyone distracted in the room, the motomami alphabet was not missing, always adapted to the city through which the Motomami World Tour passes. The B tonight was not "B for Bandida" and became "B for Barcelona". Another change was the M, accustomed to being "M for Motomami, Motomami, Motomami, Motomami, Motomami". It had to be "M for Milionària", the only song Rosalía has composed in Catalan and which made even the most lost in the audience know what to chant.

All this energy that the multifaceted singer and the exhaustive dancer show on stage is translating into composing an endless number of new songs in the middle of the tour. Rosalía is expansive ---or "E for expensive, empress, enigma, informed"--- and it shows.Despechá has already become the song of a summer in which "tonight we go out with all my motomamis," even though the full song has not yet been released.Nor is it necessary. No one doubts that she will be one of those who will light up the party, as the artist did at Sant Jordi with what was the most anticipated lyric of the night.

So were the now classics like La noche de anoche, Pienso en tu mirá —the singer recalled that this Sunday marked four years since its premiere—, De aquí no sales, Con altura, and the first of all, Malamente. Rosalía knows how to return to her origins and also knows how to honor them, especially with De plata, a moment in which she arms herself with a very long train dress and lets the hypnotic silence applaud her art. Motomami is made, but a star is born.
