The airline Wizz Air inaugurated this Tuesday a new direct route between El Prat Airport and Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel-Aviv. The company, which began operations at El Prat in 2004, will offer the Barcelona – Tel-Aviv route, and vice versa, throughout the year, with four weekly frequencies (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday) on an Airbus A321 NEO aircraft, which offers a capacity of 239 seats.

According to the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (CDRA), Israel has been "for years" among the countries with the highest demand and, even with the main route, Tel Aviv, widely covered, demand "exceeds existing capacity." Wizz Air's new route is the twentieth offered from the Catalan capital.

The CDRA's main objective is currently to recover routes and companies that operated before the pandemic, as well as to increase capacity in some existing destinations with high demand but low supply.

Wizz Air, a Hungarian low-cost airline, operates a fleet of 177 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft and transported 27.1 million passengers in its last fiscal year, which ended on March 31, 2022, reports ACN.
