The Barcelona-based startup specializing in devices to treat vascular problems Aortyx has closed a financing round of 2.4 million euros. The startup, born at the Institut Químic de Sarrià (IQS) and Hospital Clínic, has developed a patch for the treatment of aortic dissections. This device aims to reduce mortality and improve the quality of life of patients. They expect to start clinical trials with patients in 2022.

Aortyx has managed to raise more than three million euros since its founding in 2018. This second round has been led by relevant investors such as Medex Partners, Vergara Capital, family offices from the Catalan ecosystem, and investors from the first round who have renewed their confidence in the project.

The Barcelona company launched this round last March through Capital Cell with the aim of reaching 1.6 million euros. However, in fewer days than expected, it reached the desired figure and, taking into account the interest of new investors in joining the project, it has ended up reaching 2.4 million euros.

"This investment will allow us to continue meeting the planned deadlines and maintain our goal of launching an innovative product on the market that can save many lives," says Aortyx co-founder and CEO, Jordi Martorell. The startup will collaborate with the Think Aorta organization to develop its work on raising awareness about aortic diseases, first in Spain and then in Latin America.
