For years, Barcelona has lived with an absence that was difficult to explain: Salvador Dalí, one of Catalonia’s most internationally renowned artists, had neither a space of his own nor a dedicated tribute in the city. Now, almost a century after his first solo exhibition — held precisely in Barcelona, at the Galeries Dalmau — the artist returns to Passeig de Gràcia. He does so just a short distance from those historic galleries, at Casa Amatller, where, since September 16, Dalí Cibernètic has been on display: a permanent space that explores a lesser-known facet of the artist from Figueres — Dalí’s fascination with machines, science, technology, and the futures he imagined long before they arrived.
The experience occupies 1,200 square meters at the Digital Arts Center of Casa Amatller, which has previously hosted immersive experiences dedicated to artists such as Sorolla and Goya. Unlike those projects, however, Dalí’s is not conceived as a temporary exhibition, but as a living space capable of incorporating new pieces and transforming over time — and therefore, for now, it has no closing date. Building on the experience created by Layers of Reality in 2022 around Dalí, which went on to achieve international success, the new space updates and expands its content. The exhibition presents a visionary Dalí, with a particular focus on his fascination with technology and fashion, as well as his ability to imagine a future that did not yet exist.
