The Cap Roig Festival exceeds its attendance record with 56,261 spectators

Cap Roig consolidates its position as the summer festival of reference in southern Europe and closes this eighteenth edition with a total of 21 sold outs. The festival has grown by 21% with 10,000 new attendees compared to the previous edition

With an impressive concert by tenor Andrea Bocelli, this year’s edition of the Cap Roig Festival has come to an end. In total, 29 national and international performances have formed an eclectic and first-level poster, with the aim of providing a high-quality cultural offer reaching as many audiences as possible. This edition has gathered such top artists as Luis Miguel, Bryan Ferry, Manolo Garcia, Texas, Sting & Shaggy, Antonio Orozco, Luz Casal, Damien Rice, Mana, Jarabe de Palo, Juanes, Rosario, Joan Dausà, Mag Lari, James Blunt, Morat, Sergio Dalma, Els Catarres, Dàmaris Gelabert, Macaco, Loquillo, Antonio José, Joan Baez, Hombres G, Stool, Roger Hodgson, Pablo López, Maná and Andrea Bocelli.

The Cap Roig Festival, managed by Clipper’s Live and sponsored by Fundación Bancaria ”la Caixa”, thus closes its eighteenth edition surpassing, one more year, its own attendance record with the figure of 56,261 spectators.

The economic repercussion of the event is also relevant. According to a study conducted by PwC, in addition to generating 200 stable jobs, its impact on the GDP of Catalonia exceeds 18 million euros.

The managing director of Fundación Bancaria ”la Caixa”, Jaume Giró, underlined that “the Cap Roig Festival has come of age in an unbeatable health: fully consolidated as a reference cultural event in Southern Europe; with an increasingly prestigious and balanced poster, and once again surpassing its own attendance record, with 10,000 spectators more than in 2017”.

Giró added that “in recent years we have worked to expand the festival beyond the strictly musical sphere, and turn it into a charitable, playful, gastronomic and cultural experience, in a privileged natural environment, amid one of the most important botanical gardens in Europe”. He also referred to the ongoing project to “energize Cap Roig, providing it with a permanent space for debate and intellectual reflection, which generates activity in the Costa Brava area throughout the year.”

The director of the Cap Roig Festival and president of Clipper’s Live, Juli Guiu has declared to be “very pleased that once again the public has so widely supported the different proposals of the festival.” And he added “we have opted for a broad lineup of artists that spanned different genres, always prioritizing quality and the most outstanding figures of the national and international music scene at the time. I feel very proud of the great effort of my entire team after these 29 nights and the 21 sold outs, as we have achieved a new record of attendance this year”. Guiu greatly thanked the sponsors for their support and confidence: “Their partnership contributes, one more year, to turn the event into a unique experience which has evolved to be a reference boutique festival at a European level”.

SOLIDARITY AND PROGRAMMING FOR CHILDREN

The festival has also had a charity night, with the support of Palafrugell’s City Council. Part of the income generated by Antonio José’s concert, held on August 13, was donated to Fundación TRESC – Treball, an entity that promotes the training and employment of people with disabilities and mental illnesses.

Moreover, Cap Roig Mini, an initiative that began in 2013, keeps consolidating itself as the children’s program of the Festival. This year Mag Lari and Dàmaris Gelabert shows have had the youngest members of the family as its protagonists.

THE GASTRONOMIC QUALITY OFFER TURNS THE FESTIVAL INTO A SENSORIAL EXPERIENCE

The exclusive gastronomy, focused on local products of Empordà and provided by the prestigious restaurant Via Veneto, has a prominent presence in the festival. With its renewed Michelin star and its 40 years of experience, the entire team moves to Cap Roig and, on top of that, is reinforced with approximately 60 extra workers from the region to form a staff of about 100 people.

Cap Roig Festival’s gastronomic offer is set in three spaces (square, cloister and restaurant) and boasts one of the most beautiful settings of the Catalan Costa Brava. It is adapted to the costumer with quality proposals in which local products and suppliers hold a special place.

FIRST MUSIC FESTIVAL IN THE WHOLE WORLD WITH UNO BIOSPHERE CERTIFICATE

In its last edition, the festival obtained the Biosphere certificate, which represents its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, approved at the United Nations Summit in 2015 and at the Paris Summit against Climate Change (COP21). The promotion of the economic and social development of the territory, the hiring of people at risk of social exclusion, the minimum environmental impact, the compensation of greenhouse gas emissions generated during the festival and responsible consumption are some of the criteria that have been met in order to obtain this distinction awarded by the Institute of Responsible Tourism (ITR) on the basis of the sustainability criteria established in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
