Pere Navarro takes possession as new special delegate of the State in the Consorci de la Zona Franca

Graduated in Biological Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Pere Navarro I Morera (Terrassa, December 23, 1959) has accessed this post after a dilated path, highlighting his experience as a mayor of Terrassa, as first secretary of the Partido de los Socialistas de Cataluña (PSC) between 2011 and 2014, and as a deputy in the Parliament and president of the parliamentary group for this formation.

Pere Navarro has taken possession as new delegate of the State in the Consorci de la Zona Franca of Barcelona, beginning a new corporate stage in the front of the Barcelonan public entity.

Navarro was appointed past Friday 29 of June, substituting former delegate and executive president, Jordi Cornet, while the presidency of the institutional plenary is held by the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau.

In the private field, his professional experience was centered in a matter that has always impassioned him: strategic management of territorial planning and urban development, an interest which combines with his sensitivity in social matters and his care for the sustainability and the respect for the environment.

Member founder of the Juventud Socialista of Terrassa (Barcelona), soon highlighted in actions of social solidarity and accessed to areas of responsibility in the PSC and in the consistory of Terrassa (1987), until 2002 when he became mayor of Terrassa -the third city of Catalonia in number of inhabitants- for 10 years after revalidating in the elections of 2003, 2007 and 2011.

In 2012 it was appointed by the British foundation City Majors as one of the 98 better mayors of the world, together with Bilbao’s  mayor Iñaki Azkuna. As credentials for his nomination were his leadership for the first municipal pact anticrisis of Spain (2009), the impulse of the Scientific-Technological Orbital 40 Park (2010), the signature of the local pact for culture (2011) and the creation of the first office of mortgage mediation to avoid evictions (2012).

Pere Navarro’s political commitment has brought him to cooperate with social entities working for refugees (2005-2011 Foundation Acsar) or disabled (2007-2011 Reial Patronat sobre Discapacitat), and for the application of the Technologies of Information (president of Localret 2006-2011) and to the National Commission of Local Administration (2007-2011), as well as other activities related to the town hall.

Navarro Increased his public relevance in 2012 when being nominated candidate of the PSC to the presidency of the Generalitat in the elections of the 25 of November, candidature that followed his designation as a first secretary of the PSC (2011-2014), being chosen later member of the Federal Executive Commission of the PSOE (since 2014 until 2016). In the PSOE, he boosted the federal agreement of reform of the Constitution denominated Agreement of Granada (July 2013). To the Parliament of Catalonia, was president of the socialist group and secretary first of the table, as well as developing activities of the council adviser of the Parliament on Science and Technology (CAPCIT).

In the private field, he has worked in urban matters as a director of strategic development of the company IdenCity (2017-2018), specialized in strategic planning of cities and territories in areas of innovation, competitiveness, sustainability and social quality.
